KindredLens privacy policy
Effective and last updated: October 18, 2026
KindredLens is a local-first self-reflection and support-planning app. It does not diagnose, treat, or monitor postpartum depression and does not provide emergency services. Its bundled Get help now information remains available offline. This policy covers the unreleased mobile app, encrypted on-device storage, manual encrypted backups, and subscription support.
Information handled on the device
The native app stores profile and reminder preferences, trusted contacts, check-ins and self-harm answers, hard moments, self-checks, care timeline, visit preparation, summaries, coping notes, and the support plan in an SQLCipher-encrypted SQLite database. Its key is generated on the device and kept in secure storage. The browser preview uses unencrypted storage for sample information only. KindredLens does not send check-ins to a monitoring service, contact anyone automatically, or analyze entries with AI. Local reminders use neutral text and no remote push service; device authentication adds an optional screen lock.
Local-only storage
KindredLens has no product account, sign-in, hosted recovery, or custom server access. The encrypted journal remains on this device unless you choose to share it or save a manual encrypted backup.
Local-only product boundary
KindredLens has no product account, sign-in, hosted recovery, AWS access service, installation verification, or custom server beta lease. The encrypted journal remains on the device unless you choose to share it or save a manual encrypted backup. The app remains unreleased and purchases are disabled unless an explicit release configuration enables them.
Optional subscription and billing
When billing is enabled, Apple or Google processes purchases and RevenueCat supports subscription status and restoration. Purchases and Restore purchases do not require a KindredLens account. RevenueCat may receive an anonymous app-user billing identifier, purchase, transaction, product, entitlement, subscription information and applicable SDK technical metadata. It does not receive journal content, notes, contacts, backup passphrases, encryption keys or backup documents. KindredLens has no application billing server or account.
An eligible store-managed trial starts only after you choose a subscription and confirm checkout with Apple or Google. Downloading the app or completing setup does not start a trial. The store shows eligibility, trial duration, localized price, renewal date, future charge and cancellation terms. Subscriptions renew unless canceled through store settings. Restore purchases checks subscription access; it does not restore journal contents or a forgotten backup passphrase.
Ending Plus stops new paid observations. Saved records, Get help now, export, manual encrypted backup/restore and deletion remain available. Erasing device data or uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription; manage that separately through Apple or Google.
Exports, backups, and sharing
Journal exports, sharing, and backups occur only when you request an export or share, or save an encrypted portable backup. Store billing services process the limited subscription information described above. Portable backups use passphrase-based AES-256-GCM encryption, and Focalward cannot recover that passphrase. The operating-system share sheet and destination you choose then handle the file or text. Files saved or shared outside the app must be removed from those destinations separately.
Current release boundary
KindredLens remains unreleased. No beta website or server access is part of the current product boundary. Use fictional information in development previews.
How information is used
KindredLens uses information to provide local check-ins, descriptive patterns, support planning, reminders, visit preparation, exports, encrypted backup and restore, and (when enabled) subscription access. It has no advertising, session replay, third-party analytics, or AI analysis of entries. Focalward does not sell personal or health information or use it for cross-app advertising or tracking.
Retention and deletion
Device erasure removes the local record, encryption key, scheduled reminders, and app-created temporary export files on that device. It does not remove files shared elsewhere or notifications already shown by the operating system.
KindredLens has no hosted account or recovery record to delete. Erase device data in the app to remove the local journal.
Your choices and security
You can use local features without an account, revoke device permissions, export, erase device data, and create or restore a manual encrypted backup. No device, software, transmission, or storage system is completely secure; protect your device, passphrases, exports, and chosen sharing destinations.
Children, changes, and contact
KindredLens is intended for adults and is not directed to children. Focalward does not knowingly solicit children's personal information through it. This policy may change as features, providers, or legal requirements change; the effective date will be updated.
